Cannabis officially became legal in Canada today. And although there are a lot of mixed opinions about the legalisation of marijuana, there’s a new topic that people are now talking about: weed for cats. No you haven’t stepped into the Twilight Zone and yes it actually exists. Marijuana for cats. Or should I say Meowijuana.

the catnip brand that looks like marijuana

One thing we know for sure is that cats love their catnip. They go crazy for it and some would even say they are obsessed. Meowijuana has made a name for itself by making their catnips look like real marijuana. Coming in all shapes and sizes, they are giving catnips a new look. But don’t worry, their catnips don’t actually contain real weed. They are 100% Organic Catnip. So they are 100% safe for cats. They are basically only making it look like Marijuana, but it doesn’t actually contain it in their products.

Meowijuana has been making catnips since 2015 and all their products are based in the United States. Their catnip is grown in the U.S. and they’re the leading brand when it comes to organic and pet-safe catnip that is high quality. With the legalization of Marijuana throughout Canada and 9 states the U.S.A ( over the last few years ), Meowijuana has decided to go with this new “trend” and make their catnips look like weed. It’s actually been quite a success. Who knew that people would go crazy over catnips that look like Marijuana? Apparently, a lot.

cannabis for cats?

According to Animal Wellness Magazine, just like marijuana has health benefits for humans, it also has them for cats. The cannabis plant contains two important compounds: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). THC is responsible for providing the “high” effect and is great for pain control and stimulating appetite. The CBD, on the other hand, has no psychoactive properties and helps relieve anxiety, inflammation, seizure and so much more.

Veterinarians have been doing some tests on older cats who have joint problems and Feline Interstitial Cystitis (FIC) and they got great results. After administrating small amounts of cannabis, they discovered that not only had their joint aches improved significantly, but their FIC symptoms were resolved. The cats were basically “cured”. This could be the results of the many side effects of cannabis. With the different components found in the cannabis plants, the drastic improvements in the cats’ health who were tested could be due to a mix of everything: lower stress level, better mobility and reduced inflammatory on the cats’ bladders.

So yes, there is actually such a thing as weed for cats. And it has great benefits. Just like for humans, cannabis can significantly improve the health of cats. However, it’s important to consult a veterinarian before providing cannabis to your cat.
